There are two main cases in which an individual is considered a tax resident in Georgia: 1. The individual must have resided in Georgia for at least 183 days. This process can be done online via the Tax Authority portal. It is a simple process that does not require the submission of any documents. The person must first register as a taxpayer on the portal and can apply for a tax residency certificate after the required 183 days have passed. 2. Persons with significant assets can also obtain tax residency in Georgia. To do so, their confirmed assets must amount to more than 3 million Gel or they must have had an annual income of more than 200,000 Gel in the 3 years prior to the application. - In the first case, a number of conditions must be met in order to obtain tax residency. The person must own property worth at least USD 500,000 in Georgia and prove this with appropriate documents. In addition, documents must be submitted proving that the value of the property is over 3 million. Furthermore, an income from a Georgian source of at least 25,000 Gel in the last tax year is required. Finally, the person must have a Georgian residence permit, a residence card citizen ID. - In case of 200k Gel income base application – documents confirming this yearly income for 3 years before the tax residency application, property worth 500k USD equivalent in Gel in Georgia and Georgian residency permit, residency card or citizen ID. ## Costs and processing time The application for tax residency on the basis of property in Georgia is submitted via the portal of the tax authority. The procedure is free of charge and the declaration must be submitted electronically. The estimated processing time is 20 working days. ## Application for a certificate of tax residence To obtain the certificate of tax residence, the person must submit the application via the tax authority's portal. The application is free of charge and is made electronically. It is important that all required information and documents are provided correctly and in full. It is possible to apply for a certificate of residence only for the year in which the application was submitted.
